Physical damage is usually the first indicator that something has happened to a person. As for the reaction at the psychological level, you should be cautious even when a child`s behaviour has undergone a sudden and incomprehensible change.

Certain signs (indicators) may indicate that a person has been subjected to physical, psychological, or sexual abuse. You can familiarise yourself with them in the UGCC safety policy document and UNICEF brochures – here and here. This list is not complete. Also, each indicator is not 100% a sign of experienced abuse and needs further clarification.

A child is also considered a victim of violence if (s)he witnesses a crime.
