Khrystyna Shabat, head of the Center for the Dignity of the Child at UCU, took part in an international conference in Salzburg
The main topic of the conference was the development of key guiding principles, aspects and criteria of child-friendly institutions. Khrystyna Shabat gave a speech on the topic "Safeguarding in Wartime. How to build safety" ("Protection of children in times of war. How to create safety"), shared her experience of how to take care of children's safety in wartime. It is important to keep the focus on Ukraine, as well as to spread the good practices of our experts in creating a safe environment.
Schools, hospitals, hotels, museums, police stations, orphanages interact with children in different ways. There can be a friendly attitude, respect for the child's dignity and support for the holistic development of children. At the same time, these institutions can be places of abuse, humiliation, neglect and risk.
How to change the attitude to benevolence, how the institution can be with zero tolerance for violence, how to properly respond to threats related to violence against children - these questions were key throughout the conference.
