“Learning about the abuse during confession” (TRAINING SESSION)
What is this opportunity about?
The webinar aims to teach clergy how to act when learning about a case of sexual abuse during confession. In particular, how to react so as not to deepen the suffering of the abused person and support them on the path to healing. The participants will deepen their knowledge of the following issues:
- How to hear a confession of a person who has been sexually abused?
- What does an abused person expect when going to confession?
- What can a priest do to avoid deepening the suffering of the abused person, respect their pain and support them on the path of healing?
- How to react if the offender reports their crime?
The training session is conducted by: Fr. Tomasz Lishevsky, the co-author of the book “Confessor in the Context of the Drama of Sexual Violence”, a psychotherapist with many years of experience in psychological and spiritual support of victims of sexual violence and their families; Marta Titaniec and Fr. Piotr Studnicki, representatives of the St. Joseph Foundation (Warsaw).
