“Protecting children in times of war” (CONFERENCE)
On April 5-6, the “Protecting Children in Times of War” conference was held in Lviv. About 150 representatives of governmental and non-governmental organisations from all over Ukraine participated in the event.
Organisers: Ukrainian Catholic University, Child Dignity Center, “Ridni” Charitable Foundation.
The main focus of communication is the three pillars of a healthy and happy childhood: dignity, joy, and safety. The two-day event included six discussion panels:
- The concept of children’s safety in wartime. What it means to be safe and feel safe;
- Prevention and intervention as efficient models of protecting one’s childhood;
- Sharing case studies of public organisations and experiences gained during the war;
- What are the best interests of the child? Why institutions should work together for the best interests of the child;
- Children’s mental health and parents’ emotional regulation. Research experience of the first six months of the war;
- Games as a mechanism for preserving childhood.
One of the most essential parts of the conference was the presentation of children’s work on their concept of safety. In this way, we generated and reflected ideas about child safety while asking about and considering their opinion.
We recommend watching a selection of videos for all adults, without exception.
